2013 Late Harvest Zinfandel
This Late Harvest Zinfandel is bright and nimble on the palate. In the glass, it is deep dark ruby red color. Aromas of cola and fruit leather are inviting. On the palate, this wine softly presents sweet ripe plum, black cherry conserves and touches of hard spices. A welcome touch of acidity carries both aromas and flavors of this balanced and lovely wine. This wine is unusually flexible for its type and will offer a unique twist as an aperitif as well as in its more classic role as a dessert pairing with fruit based tarts and pastries or (of course!) chocolates.
The fruit for this wine is sourced from the Mesa Del Sol vineyard, located a little south of Monterey. This vineyard has lean rocky soils that have been nurtured for many years with organic farming practices and has an exceptional reputation for its Zinfandel grapes.
VINIFICATION AND AGING:
Our Late Harvest Zinfandel was oak barrel fermented and aged for 18 months to develop the desired balance between the fruit characteristics and a soft flavorful structure.
The 2013 growing season was long and somewhat on the cool side. It provided larger than usual yields of fruit with moderate sugars, crisp acidities and wonderful varietal expression. This is an excellent vintage with beautiful full and bright fruit expressions.
