De Tierra Tierra
January 18, 2016 | De Tierra Blog | De Tierra Tierra

It's a new year and new things are happening at De Tierra! So, we wanted to update you all on where the vines are as we are about to begin the growing cycle once again. The vines have been ‘pre-pruned’. This means we sent crews through to cut the woody growth from last year down to about 5 inches of growth. Next step will be pre-season pruning, which will be the biggest, and most important, pruning of the year. At this point they crews will cut the vine back to two nodes per cane. This means that each cane, there are about 8 per vine, will develop 2 buds this spring (time TBD by el nino). These buds will break open in spring, and will eventually each become new shoots/canes that will bare fruit in summer and fall, about 5-6 months after bud bread. Those of you who are joining us for the tour soon will get a chance to see this first hand!
